A long-term goal for my group is to develop a working simulation model of a bacterial cell. Here I will describe: (a) our previous efforts to build detailed structural models of the cytoplasm and chromosome of E. coli, (b) how the advent of AlphaFold2 has impacted our work, and (c) our current efforts to build a stochastic simulation model of coupled transcription and translation events in bacteria.
